8 Days of Democracy - USA04 The Year the center fell out of American Politics
2 hr 24 minutes in 8 partsm festival
The 2004 Democratic and Republican National Conventions pretty much shut down Boston and New York City for at least 8 full days. Two Boston based filmmakers decided to confront this monstrosity of “Democracy” head on and plunge into an 8 day odyssey of clashing ideas coming from the people on streets of Boston, New York City and the visitors from the rest of the country.
This film features the individual voices of the people and various organizations that make up the political landscape at the street level in America. It is an honest and independent look at the state of a nation caught in between big party politics, corporate media, massive security, fear, division and mistrust.
The goal of this film is to be a First Amendment Media project showing that we the people have the right to petition our government, which includes us and that, not only should we always feel free to speak our opinions no mater what, but that we should feel compelled to do so. Dialogue is what democracy is all about and it is what seemed to be missing from all media in 2004.
This film will be released to all free local access TV stations to inspire a more open look at the issues of the day and to encourage the use of free speech and the right to petition the government. Everything in the film is on location and “real” footage, no prompting no scripts no retakes just the reality we found... with some music and stuff to keep the story going. But, we found as much or more wisdom on the streets than we believe we found in the big business controlled media of this USA today.
The election of 2004 was called the most important election of our life times and our question was - what is this all about anyway? Where are we with our politics? Is America unraveling into a divided, winner take all, might makes right, political machine or are we finding the way back to our fundamental ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, not to mention simple open discussion of the facts as we know them?
But in the air in 2004 was something greater than confusion, it was a grand manipulation and everyone played along. Divide and concur. A revolution of power over the people and we awake to find our trerasury gone!
2004 WAS THE YEAR THAT THE CENTER FELL OUT OF AMERICAN POLITICS.
The questions uncovered in this film have not changed and may not be resolved in our life times unless the people take up their responsibility not only to petition the government but to remind it that it is “we the people” that “establish this constitution” and your solutions must protect us from profiteering, deceit and our death.
